With the
advent of the learning management
system, corporate training has
taken on a whole new look. Furthermore, such systems have allowed for rapid
advancements in the field of training- with something as hi-tech as artificial
intelligence being used to facilitate training. With so many new formats to work
with, training course builders have a wide variety of options- with their
courses taking on a different look depending on the topic and the type of
industry it is directed at. However, there is much more to creating a training
course than choosing the right LMS to
work with. Here are some of the factors which must be considered when creating
a course which is supposed to hit the right boxes.
Course content
You may be
using techniques such as microlearning, gamification, simulations or something
similar, but if your course content isn’t what it needs to be- you shouldn’t
expect good results. The content of your course must receive an adequate amount
of attention in the course-creating process. One of the biggest issues which
trainers face is that trainees aren’t attentive, aren’t retaining information
and their understanding of the topic is incomplete.
While some
blame will obviously fall on the formats and techniques of training you use, a
major chunk of the blame falls on the course content. We all remember what it
was like when we tried to go through our course books back in school,
especially for a subject we didn’t like. The same thing happens to your
employees when they try to complete a training course. Find ways of making your
course interesting, interactive and full of knowledge- ensuring better
long-lasting effects.
Time management
Another
major way of ensuring that your training course is one of the best is to make
sure that there is enough time for trainees to understand and absorb the
information. Course creators can make two mistakes. They can either make a
course which lasts too long, with trainees losing focus at frequent intervals,
or they can create courses which don’t offer enough time to trainees, which
will again lead to incomplete understanding.
Fortunately,
with high quality learning management
systems, time management is
something which is relatively easier to ensure. For most courses, employees are
given a set time within which they are supposed to complete the course- thus
allowing them to go through the contents at their own pace, at a time which
suits them most, ensuring better results.
Assessing the results
While
creating a course is an important part of training, assessing its’ impact is
nearly as important, if not holding the same significance. This assessment can
be made in two ways. Firstly, employees should be made to attempts quizzes and
assignments which will help trainers analyze their degree of understanding and
retention, allowing them to evaluate the effectiveness of the course. Secondly,
employees should also be asked to complete surveys which will allow the former
to address whatever problems they had with the course- be it the delivery
system, course content or a technical problem.
Through such
an assessment, course creators ensure that they have the information required
to create a course which is better than ones previously made.
